Training

Long Term Athlete Development Objectives

Training to win; the emphasis will be on specialisation and performance enhancement, with a double or triple periodisation of the training year. Swimmer’s physical, technical, tactical, mental, and ancillary capacities should be fully established with the focus now on optimisation of performance. Training will continue to develop strength, core body strength and maintain suppleness.

Training to compete; a continued emphasis on physical conditioning with the focus on maintaining high volume workloads but with increasing intensity, with a double or triple periodisation of the training year. The squad will focus on developing maximum strength gain through the use of land training, with continued work on core body strength and maintaining suppleness.

Criteria

  • Western county qualifier and above
  • Aged 13yrs and over
  • Must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance including 2 mornings and ideally ALL 8 sessions per week. Failure to complete criteria will result in missing Friday PM. 
  • During exam periods swimmers must maintain a minimum of 5 sessions (62.5%). Exam dates and periods must be communicated with the head coach 
  • Must be able to complete 30x100 frontcrawl on 1.30
  • Plus 2 of the following; 12x100 breaststroke on 1.50, 12x100 backstroke on 1.35, 12x100 butterfly on 1.50
  • All additional land training is compulsory
  • New swimmers are subject to a 6 month probationary period and review
  • Black club hats must be worn in training & competition (if you wear one)
  • Expected to arrive 15mins prior to the start of training
  • Expected to carry out mobility & stretching, before & after training/competition
  • Encouraged to increase training during holiday periods
  • During exam periods swimmers are expected to maintain a minimum of 4 sessions per week
  • Must attend training the night before & after every competition
  • Must only compete in competitions listed on the clubs calendar
  • Must report to the coach before & after every race
  • Expected to complete full warm-up & swim-down protocols
  • Expected to take part in every race & final entered unless notified by the Head Coach
  • Contact the coach if absent or unable to complete the above criteria. 

Kit/Equipment

Swimmers should arrive with the following kit and equipment properly adjusted and in good working order;

• Hand paddles• Theraband
• Snorkel (finis type)• Roll mat
• Theraband• At least 2 drinks bottles (stay topped up)
• Roll mat 
• Drinks bottle (1 litre per hour)
